Sightseeing & Trekking
The Chomolhari trek follows the crystal clear trout rich upstream
trail of Paro Chu along the verdant rhododendron canopied forests
and salubrious green alpine meadow. Mt. Chomolhari, having one of
the most beautiful peaks in the Eastern Himalaya, stands at a
magnificent 7314 mts with age old frontier forts and sprawling yak
pastures in its foreground; a truly rewarding yak pastures in its
foreground; a truly rewarding sight for the determined trekker. In
the course of the trek, one will have sojourned through several
places rich in history in Paro, Thimpu and Punakha Valleys.
Day 01: Flight from Kathmandu to Paro. Reception at airport and
transfer to Kichu Resort.
Welcome dinner and briefing.
Day 02: Sightseeing Paro.
Drive to Drugyel Dzong (Bhutanese victorious fort), now stand in
ruin after destroyed by fire in 1950’s. From here one can have the
view of sacred Mt. Chomolhari on the clear day and make a visit to
Bhutanese typical farm house and drive back to hotel for lunch
enroute stop to walk around the court yard of sacred monastery
Kyichu Lhakhang founded in 7th century by first King of
Tibet. After lunch drive to Ta-Dzong, the former Watch Tower which
now houses the National Museum and walk down by passing closely Paro
Dzong crossing the Bhutnese typical wooden roofed bridge to Paro
town. Overnight at Kichu Resort.
Day 03: Trek to Shana (2800m.)
Commence your trek to Shana for about 5-6 hours with gradual climb
following the Paro river through the agriculture Valley and
villages. The camp site is opposite to the Army check post in a
meadow near the river.
Day 04: Trek to Thangbu (3860m.)
The trail is gradually ascent following the Paro river through the
conifer forest and Rhododendron. The campsite in a flat meadow place
surrounded by conifer and birch forest and on the clear day you
could have a magnificent view of Mt. Chomolhari peep at you suddenly
out of the clouds. (Approx. 6 to 7 hrs walk.)
Day 05: Trek to Jangothang (4040m.)
The trail leads by passing the array post and
the valley begins to widen and come by the winter house of Yak
herder where lunch will be served in one of the houses. Camp
beneath a ruined fortress at the base of Mt. Chomolhari. (Approx.
5-6 hrs walk.)
Day 06: Trek to Lingshi (3915m.)
The trail is with gradual climb across Nyili-la
pass at 4680m and all the way down with a view of Lingshi Dzong and
Tserin Kang with its descending glaciers and lakes. Camp near the
stream in a meadow. (Approx. 5 to 6 hrs walk)
Day 07: Trek to Shodu (3685m.)
The trail through the deep valley and ascend to
Yeli-la pass at 4820m from here Mt. Chomolhari, Mt. Tsherimgang and
Mt. Masagang can be seen on the clear day. Camp in a meadow.
(Approx. 6 to 7 hrs walk.)
Day 08: Trek to Barshong ( 3428m.)
The trail descend gently down to meet Thim-Chu
through the dense forest of Rhododendron, birch, conifer trees and
across the pasture land for the overnight camp.(Approx. 5-6 hrs
walk.)
Day 09: Trek to Dolam.
Contnue the trek till you reach Dolam and drive
onto Thimpu for overnight.
Day 10: Return drive to Paro. Overnight at
Kichu Resort.
Day 11: Depart Paro to Kathmandu.
